eSugar Jewelry Spring-Summer 2012 Collection
Bright colors, hardware, soft hues mixed with exotic beads and super cool wrap around bracelets are some of the amazing characteristics of eSugar Jewelry created by Toronto based designer Elyssa Sugar.
I had the opportunity to interview the talented designer and shoot her amazing Spring/Summer 2012 Collection.

The Interview
SJM: When did you start designing?
ES: I started designing clothes when I was 13. I would sketch on the weekends and would always read up on designers. I started designing purses when i was 18 by painting abstract images and reconstructing old bags found in my closet. However, I became more focused on m education and pretty much stopped designing all together, while sketching from time to time. Jewellery did not come about until recently but I had always been the crafty kid at camp that had an armful of bracelets.
SJM: What inspires/motivates you to design?
ES: Colour, colour and more colour! I’ve always had an eye for colour (my parents consulted me for every single colour to paint their new house!). I love how colours draw the eye naturally and are definitely a great self expression tool. I also want to create beautiful things for my friends who are my biggest supporters. I’ve always been so crafty that I want to share my talent. I read a ton of blogs and am really involved in the social media scene (Pinterest, Twitter, etc.). Following people on those mediums who inspire me always seems to spark a new idea!
SJM: Your pieces are so versatile and playful what is the story behind the collection?
ES: I also love the mix of hard and soft. The chains with the delicate embroidery floss are a great contrast of each other – they allow the feminine side to shine through the hard metal exterior. I also love unexpected combinations of colour that you wouldn’t think would go together but then realize you can’t take your eyes off of it. I want to design for the woman who’s classic but has an edgy side to her as well.
SJM: What can we expect for next season or in the future?
ES: I think each piece I design I grow a little more, become a little more sophisticated in the pieces I’m trying to produce. I believe quality is a key factor in my pieces and I continue to think of new ideas to make each piece stronger. I love metals and brass so expect to see more colour combinations with flashes of colours for the season!
